DFG protests the arrest of 7 journalists

Protesting the arrest of 7 journalists in Istanbul, DFG said: “We will not bow down, we will continue to defend journalism everywhere.”

The Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) protested the arrest of 7 journalists in Istanbul. The reason for the arrest was the statement that the association wanted to make about journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin, who were killed in a drone attack by the Turkish state in Northern and Eastern Syria while covering events there.

DFG members reiterated that "journalism is not a crime," and added: "We have been on the streets for days after the murder of our two colleagues. We will continue to write the truth. First in Diyarbakır, then in Van and finally in Istanbul, the authorities attacked our statement. They detained 30 journalists. On Sunday, they remanded 7 of them in custody. As if that wasn’t enough, they launched investigations against journalists, press organizations and bar associations who showed solidarity. As we said yesterday, we repeat it today, we will not bow down, we will continue to defend journalism everywhere."
