JINNEWS journalist Derya Ren, who was held in Diyarbakır Women's Closed Prison, has been released. Ren was taken into custody in house raids conducted on 25 October 2022. JINNEWS reporter Ren was arrested after her 3-year, 13-month, 15-day prison sentence, given to her by the Urfa 6th High Criminal Court on charges of "knowingly and willingly aiding an illegal organization", was approved by the Supreme Court in 2022. Journalist Ren's release was postponed for 3 months by the Administrative and Monitoring Board in May on the grounds that she was "not ready to integrate with society".
Journalist Ren was eventually released on Tuesday. She was greeted in front of the prison by her family, the Mesopotamia Women Journalists Association (MKG), the Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) and her colleagues.
