The police used violence against journalists who were covering the commemoration event for victims of Şuruç massacre in Istanbul. Several journalists were injured by the shields and rubber bullets of the police.
The Turkish Journalists' Association (TGC) has condemned the police violence against the Suruç commemoration in Kadıköy, Istanbul on Tuesday.
During the commemoration in Kadıköy, the Turkish police attacked the crowd violently leaving many injured, including journalists.
TGC Board of Directors said that the police used violence against journalists who were covering the commemoration event in Kadıköy.
Several journalists were injured by the police using shields and rubber bullets.
TGC underlined that journalism is not a crime and the police should have ensured the safety of the journalists instead of preventing them from doing their job.
“We remind you that freedom of the press guarantees the right of the citizens of all views to be informed and to learn the truth in this country. We condemn the security forces who use violence and commit crimes against journalists and we demand their punishment as soon as possible.”
