Prosecutor demanded prison sentence in the trial of 6 women journalists.
The 3rd hearing of the lawsuit filed against 6 women journalists who gathered in Kadıköy, Istanbul on 29 April 2023 to protest the detention operations against the Free Press employees and were beaten and detained was held at Anadolu Courthouse 22nd Criminal Court of First Instance on Thursday.
Journalists on trial for "violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations" did not attend the hearing. Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA) Co-Director Veysel Ok, Emine Özahasar, one of the lawyers of the association, and lawyers of the journalists on trial without arrest attended the hearing.
The prosecutor demanded prison sentences for journalists Serpil Ünal, Yadigar Aygün, Pınar Gayıp, Eylem Nazlıer, Zeynep Kuray and Esra Soybir.
The court adjourned the hearing to 31 October for the lawyers to present their defences against the prosecutor's opinion.
