Eğitim Sen Amed branches call on students to boycott schools

Amed branches of Eğitim Sen (Education Union) have announced support to the school boycott called by DTK in demand of education in mother tongue, and called on all the students and families to join the boycott.

Amed branches of Eğitim Sen (Education Union) have announced support to the school boycott called by Democratic Society Congress (DTK) in demand of education in mother tongue, and called on all the students and families to join the boycott.

Representatives of Eğitim Sen No. 1, 2 and 3 Amed branches held a press conference regarding the one-week school boycott.

Reading out the press statement, written in both Kurdish and Turkish, Eğitim Sen Amed No. 1 branch co-chair Dilek Adsan recalled that the school year of 2015-2016 began in the shadow of increased clashes.

Adsan pointed out that the AKP aimed to establish a monotype education system for the sake of its own political and ideological interests, remarking that the society was being pushed into a polarization by the sense of “one religion, one language, and one sect”.

Drawing attention to the difficulties faced by teachers and students who do not know Turkish, Adsan stressed that mother tongue was an essential basic need for children just like bread and water.

Adsan said the Eğitim Sen supported the decision of the DTK for a school boycott, and added: “We do not send our children to schools either, and call on all the families and students to support the boycott”.
