HPG: Turkish attacks against guerrilla areas continue
The Turkish army attacks against guerrilla areas in northern Iraq continue uninterruptedly. The occupiers carried out 360 attacks on April 18 and 19.
Despite a ceasefire declared unilaterally by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the Turkish army continues to escalate their attacks on the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). According to the HPG balance sheet for March, the Turkish army carried out a total of 11,585 air and ground attacks against the guerrilla areas in northern Iraq last month.
The Press Center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) announced that the occupying Turkish army continued to target guerrilla areas.
According to a statement released by the HPG Press Liaison Center on Sunday, details of the attacks carried out by the invading Turkish army and the response by the guerrilla forces to these attacks are as follows:
"Attacks with banned explosives
On April 18, our tunnels in Girê Amediyê Resistance Area in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were bombed with banned explosives.
Attacks by warplanes
On April 18, Girê Bahar Resistance Area in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region was bombed once by warplanes.
Attacks with heavy weapons, artillery and howitzers
On April 18 and 19, the Turkish army carried out a total of 358 attacks with heavy weapons, artillery and howitzers, targeting the Lolan area in Xakurkê region 5 times; the areas of Zêvkê, Girgaşê, Sipîndarê, Mijê, Dêreşê in Garê region 115 times; the areas of Şêlazê and Bêşîlî in Metîna region 14 times; the areas of Girê Amediyê and Girê Bahar in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region 224 times.
Interventions by our forces against attacks
At 13:58 on April 18, the Şehîd Axîn Mûş Unit hit a howitzer weapon that bombarded the tunnels and positions of the guerrillas in Sergelê Resistance Area in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region. The strike by a kamikaze drone, which destroyed the howitzer, was carried out in response to the intense attacks by the invading Turkish army.
At 10:58 am on April 19, the invaders who attacked the resistance tunnels in the Girê Amediyê Resistance Area in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were intervened by the guerrillas with medium automatic weapons.”
