More than 124 lawyers and law experts from Iran undersigned a statement condemning the violence and destruction by the Turkish government against Kurdish people.

Lawyers stressed that the international community is obliged to act on their responsibilities for the innocent Kurdish civilians as the Kurdish people are under attack by Turkish government today.

Iranian lawyers insisted that Turkish government should meet the Kurdish legitimate demands and act by all means and international conventions.

The statement continued: “Turkish government deceives the international community. Unfortunately we can see that Turkish government is deceiving global community under the name of so called war against "terrorism", and instead of attacking ISIL (DAESH), they conduct military operations and attack their opponents in and out of country. The scope and extend of the violence is so vast that it besieged civilian population in Kurdish region.”

HUMAN RIGHTS AND BEHAVIOUR

“According to the provisions of international humanitarian laws, all governments are obliged to avoid violence and targeting civilians. Turkey, one of the countries member of the Geneva conventions 1949, has to obey Article 3 of this convention, which has developed certain behavioural framework that guarantees the monitoring of human behaviour in civil wars.”

Lawyers recalled that the Turkish state signed the European convention on human rights which guarantees civil and political rights of people and is committed to respecting all of these rights among the provisions of the international treaties and prevent the government from threatening the people's life, integrity and reputation of individuals.

CALL TO THE GLOBAL COMMUNITY

Lawyers and law experts of Iran demanded Turkish government to comply with all international human rights law in its treatment of Kurdish citizens, and called upon all international community to urge the Turkish government to fulfill its obligations.

According to the doctrine of "responsibility to protect " in resolutions 1674 of UN Security Council, the exercise of sovereignty by state is both a right and responsibility. “If any government does not fulfill their responsibilities and obligations for their citizens and not provide security to them, the international community are obliged to act on their responsibilities about innocent civilians."

Pointing out that the security of Kurdish people in Turkey remains under attack by Turkish government today, Iranian lawyers urged the international community to not remain silent about these inhuman acts.
