Lawyers have shared their observations following an assessment in Şırnak's Cizre district which underwent a curfew for 9 days, during which 23 people lost their lives as a result of attacks by Turkish state forces.

Upon a call by Libertarian Lawyers' Association (ÖHD), Mesopotamia Lawyers' Association (MHD), and Bar Associations in Northern Kurdistan, a number of lawyers including those affiliated to Lawyers for Democracy, Contemporary Lawyers Association, United June Movement, Libertarian and Democrat Lawyers entered Cizre after the removal of the curfew yesterday morning.

'WHAT HAPPENED IN CİZRE CONCERNS ENTIRE TURKEY'

In a statement on behalf of the aforementioned institutions, Libertarian Lawyers' Association member Züleyha Gülüm recalled that attacks beginning after June 7 elections have mainly intensified in Northern Kurdistan, the Kurdish region in Turkey.
Stressing that Turkish state forces started a massacre of civilians soon after the announcement of a curfew in Cizre, Gülüm described the attacks as a great threat that concerned not only the town itself but also entire Turkey.

'RIGHT TO LIFE AND HEALTH VIOLATED'

Speaking after, Mesopotamia Lawyers' Association Co-President Kadir Güner underlined that over 100 thousand people living in Cizre had their right to life, health and housing violated following the arbitrary curfew imposed by the Governor of Şırnak. Citing the law No 5442, He underlined that these three basic rights couldn't be violated under any circumstances.

Güner said; “Those wounded during the course of the curfew were denied access and opportunity for treatment, in addition to being threatened by police forces. The people couldn't call ambulances due to a lack of network, and those who managed to do so were also denied access to ambulances by police.”

'ATTACKS AIMED TO INTIMIDATE THE PEOPLE OF CİZRE'

Libertarian Lawyers' Association General Co-President Ömer Güneş said those disobeying the curfew confronted death while all the inhabitants in the town were also denied permission to meet their urgent needs as bakeries and shops to provide these were also targeted by the attacks of Turkish state forces.

“All the attacks aimed to intimidate the people of Cizre”, he underlined, and added that thousands of people remained under threat during the nine days of curfew and crackdown.
