Turnout for general elections in South Kurdistan was 64 percent

The turnout rate for the sixth term parliamentary general elections in South Kurdistan was 64 percent.

Polls in South Kurdistan closed at 6pm on Sunday. Voters were called to renew the regional parliament. Ballot boxes were set up in the cities of Duhok, Silêmanîye, Hewler and Halabja.

The Iraqi Independent High Election Commission said that the general turnout rate in the four electoral regions was 64 percent. The distribution of turnout in the elections is as follows:

Sulaymaniyah (Silêmanî) 61 percent

Erbil (Hewler) 65 percent

Duhok 70 percent

Halabja 61 percent

Approximately 3 million voters were called to the polls.

Results to be announced within 24 hours after the elections

Hakim Umer, President of the Iraqi High Electoral Commission, stated that there have been no technical problems in the voting process so far and said, “We will announce the results within 24 hours after the elections are over.”
