34 more Turkish soldiers killed as guerrilla resistance against occupation continues

According to the HPG, another 34 soldiers have died in the course of the Turkish invasion of Southern Kurdistan. The Turkish army's attacks are concentrated in the Zap and Avaşîn regions, and the guerrillas are putting up uninterrupted resistance.

The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) has published new information on the Turkish army's invasion of southern Kurdistan, northern Iraq, which began on April 17. According to HPG information, the attacks continue to focus on the Zap region and the Werxelê mountain massif in Avaşîn. The guerrillas are putting up uninterrupted resistance. In the actions listed in the statement, which cover a wide area and are carried out with modern guerrilla tactics, 34 soldiers of the Turkish army have died, according to HPG figures. Six other soldiers were injured and one drone was hit.

Avaşîn

Regarding the details, the HPG press office stated that YJA Star struck the invading forces in Werxelê area with heavy weapons at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ten soldiers were killed and two others were injured in the action.

On the same day, at 5:30 and 5:50 p.m., sabotage actions were carried out against soldiers moving in the area. Two soldiers were killed as a result.

Zap

In the part of the Werxelê resistance area located in the Zap region, guerrillas hit the occupation forces from two sides on April 18, killing one soldier.

In the Karker area of the Zap region, guerrillas struck Turkish helicopters as early as 9 p.m. on April 17 as they were airdropping troops at Girê Şehîd Ciwan. The helicopters then moved away without landing. The next day, a soldier was shot dead in the Karker area as the army was establishing a position. Another position under construction was targeted by guerrillas twice with heavy weapons. At 7 a.m. on Tuesday morning, a drone was hit at Girê Şehîd Ciwan. This was followed by an action with heavy weapons at 11 a.m. that killed six soldiers and injured four others.

In the resistance area of Şehîd Rûstem, a Turkish unit stationed at Girê Şehîd Agir was struck at 1 p.m. on April 18, killing one soldier.

Also on Monday, Turkish troops attempted to enter the Kunîşka resistance area three times. The guerrillas were able to stop the advance and force the soldiers to retreat. The area was then subjected to massive bombardment. At 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, another attempt was made by the Turkish army, which was again repulsed.

Likewise, on Monday, an advance to Girê Şehîd Tufan was prevented by the guerrillas through the use of heavy weapons twice. On Tuesday at 9:20 and 11 a.m., three soldiers were killed in a sabotage action in the area.

On April 19, Turkish ground forces advanced from the KDP-controlled town of Şîladizê toward the Kuro Jahro resistance area to take up positions at Girê Şehîd Şemdîn. The guerrillas used sabotage tactics against the occupation attempt, and two soldiers were killed. Military movements in the vicinity of Şîladizê continued. At Girê Şehîd Çiyager, two soldiers were shot by YJA Star snipers on the same day. In the evening, a coordinated guerrilla action led by the YJA Star was carried out against a Turkish unit that was trying to set up a camp at Kuro Jahro. Five military personnel were killed, including one officer. At Girê Şehîd Harûn, a soldier was killed in a sabotage operation at 10 a.m. on April 19.

Massive bombardment on the guerrilla areas

HPG further reports that 47 air and artillery attacks by the Turkish army took place on April 17 and 18, targeting the areas of Kuro Jahro, Karker, Şehîd Şahîn, Çemço, Sîda, Rênçbiraxa and Şikefta Birîndara. The Girê Cûdî, Girê Amediye and Girê FM areas in the Zap region were bombed 19 times on April 18. Girê Hakkari in Metîna was bombed six times on the same day.
