Writer, researcher and political activist Mamoste Şemal was murdered as a result of an armed attack in front of his home on 28 August 2022, as he was returning from work.
Two days after the attack, some media outlets wrote that the killer was a member of the Turkmen Front and left his vehicle in Dakuk after returning from Kifri to Kirkuk.
Two months after the assassination attack, new information emerged. A security source, who did not want to be named due to the sensitivity of the case, told Rojnews: "Less than 24 hours after the murder, the perpetrators were found and a suspect was arrested in Dakuk."
The source said that the suspect was first arrested for "deliberate killing", but later the case was included in the scope of "terrorist crimes". It was not made clear why the arrest was kept secret.
