An arson attack has been carried out on the building of the provincial association of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in Muş. This was announced by the party's executive committee today at the local HDP headquarters. The co-chair of the HDP in Muş, Savci Arslan, said that flags with the party symbol hung at the entrance of the building were set alight by unknown persons. The attack was discovered in the morning. Arslan assumes that the building was intended to be set on fire, but that the fire went out by itself. "As a result, our building escaped a great danger," said the local politician.
The HDP has filed a criminal complaint for deliberate arson. Arslan demanded that the perpetrator or perpetrators be found immediately: "The party building and all our work are being watched continuously. How can it be then that someone unobserved tries to set fire to our provincial association?"
A memorial service for Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan and Leyla Şaylemez, who were murdered in Paris ten years ago, and the three victims of the second Paris attack on 23 December 2022, Evîn Goyî (Emine Kara), Mîr Perwer (Mehmet Şirin Aydın) and Abdurrahman Kızıl, was held at the HDP association in Muş on Monday.
In Turkey, attacks on HDP headquarters and politicians are frequent. In June 2021, Deniz Poyraz, a Kurdish woman, was shot dead by a Turkish fascist in the HDP building in Izmir. The right-wing extremist, who had received military training from the Turkish state, entered the premises, which were under round-the-clock surveillance by the police, armed and murdered the young woman with several shots, the only person present.
