Che Guevara of Manbij says, "Manbij will be a turning point for the freedom of humanity, of all peoples. She may be a town in the middle of the Middle East, but the freedom she exudes will affect all humanity."
The Martyr Abu Leyla Operation had come out of the longing the people of Manbij trapped inside and the people outside away from their lands. Manbij residents who couldn't organise under captivity conditions asked their fellow man and women outside to do it for them.
Since the launch on June 1, all general villages and hamlets of Manbij have come under control of those who set out to liberate her. The operation has reached the outlying neighborhoods of the town. People living in areas liberated early on enjoy the taste of freedom now that they have their normal lives back, as the inner city residents escape ISIS in groups whenever they catch a break to take refuge in the free zones.
As the most important actor in the operation, the actual fighters carrying out the operation are excited to be taking their own stories to the lands they had their own dreams and memories back again.
THEY HAD FORESEEN ISIS CRUELTY AND LEFT MANBIJ
Che Guevara of Manbij is one of the fighters to take his dreams back to town again. He had to leave his memories behind and leave Manbij with his family. With 3 of his cousins left behind.
He is of the Kurds of Manbij. His family have participated in the Kurdish freedom struggle in Rojava for a long time. Kurds and this family had been reduced to nothing under the Assad regime, thus realized the oncoming ISIS oppression early and left Manbij.
In leaving Manbij, the family not only rid themselves of the fear of capture, but took their place among those victorious over ISIS by vanquishing fear. Following this, Che Guevara took the seeds of freedom for his city into his own hands without hesitation.
WHY CHE GUEVARA?
When we asked why he chose the name Che Guevara, he said: "Manbij will be a turning point for the freedom of humanity, of all peoples. She may be a town in the middle of the Middle East, but the freedom she exudes will affect all humanity."
Apart from his dreams as vast as his name, one of his most important goals is to reunite with his 3 cousins who were left behind.
