Defend Kurdistan Initiative calls on people to join action planned for today

The International Defend Kurdistan Initiative held a press conference in the city of Sulaymaniyah to condemn the attack on the village of Gelale in Sherbajer on Saturday evening and called for participation in an action to be held today.

The International Defend Kurdistan Initiative, which held a series of meetings against the invasion attacks carried out by the Turkish state on South Kurdistan, held a press conference in Sulaymaniyah.

In the statement condemning the attack by Turkish drones against the village of Gelale in Sharbajer a call was made for people to join the action to be held in Sulaymaniyah at 5 pm local time today.

“Today [Saturday] at around 7 pm, the Kurdish village named Gelale was bombed by Turkish drones. Two people lost their lives and one person was injured,” the statement said.

The statement drew attention to the support provided to Turkey by the US, Germany and NATO countries. “Today, half an hour before this attack, the peace delegation left Kunamasi. We were there to visit a family who was injured in the attack of Turkish drones a year ago. The family member, who lost his leg and hand after the attack in 2020, told us, 'Turkey says it only attacked the PKK on the border, but this is a lie. I am a civilian, I live close to the city and they attacked me.’”

The statement added: “Turkish drones attacked civilian settlements again in Kunamasi, 20 kilometres from Gelale, in the evening today. Turkey's murderous attitude continues; they use European military technologies to carry out these attacks. The Iraqi regional Kurdish government remains silent. We make the following call to organizations in Europe: Do not remain silent about these attacks. Do not allow your state to sell weapons to the fascist Turkish state. Turkey is currently doing everything to rebuild the Ottoman Empire. We are here with the Kurdish people and we call on the whole world to support this solidarity initiative.”
