Ayşegül Doğan: All parties should contribute to the process

DEM Party spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan said that all political parties should contribute to the process and that the Parliament should also take responsibility.
Ayşegül Doğan, spokesperson for the People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), held a press conference at the party's headquarters regarding the Party Assembly (PM) and Central Executive Committee (MYK) meetings.
Referring to the call by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli for the establishment of a committee in Parliament, Doğan noted that they had previously made a similar proposal.
“We invited the speaker of parliament to take the initiative months ago. We said that this issue was very important,” said Ayşegül Doğan, adding that the solution to the Kurdish question cannot be separated from the democratization of Turkey. Stating that all political parties should contribute to the process with their criticisms and suggestions, Doğan said: "We are talking about a parliament with the highest level of political representation in history. We had stated before that we would initiate a commission discussion that would not be limited to the parliament but would also include other segments and dynamics of society. This was one of the main topics we discussed and debated extensively. We believe that Parliament Speaker Kurtulmuş should take responsibility for this commission."
Doğan further stated the following: “There is a lot of concern in society. Alleviating this concern is the most important task of the Parliament. This issue must be evaluated above all political interests. We need a comprehensive approach instead of other approaches based on voter base concerns. Turkey must break free from this mindset. We must challenge our preconceptions.
We have been in the field and will continue to be. We will increase the number of our house and community meetings. We will be both the narrators and organizers of this process because there are fragilities. In such processes, risks are inevitable. We aim to go beyond merely minimizing these risks and, if possible, eliminate them entirely. We seek to clean up all risky areas and eliminate them by increasing social support.
Our deputy group leaders had previously met with the Ministry of Justice regarding the 10th Judicial Package and the measures that need to be taken during this period, after which they issued a detailed statement on the matter. The Ministry of Justice also issued a statement covering the same topics. How this will be implemented will become clear in the coming days.”
When asked about Erdoğan's remark that “laying down arms also includes the YPG,” Ayşegül Doğan said, “As I said before, the PKK is directly responsible for that issue. The organization itself and its leader, Mr. Öcalan, can answer questions regarding the process of laying down arms.”
Responding to the question regarding a “new constitution,” Ayşegül Doğan stressed that there is a need for a democratic and peaceful constitution.
