HPG Press Office announced the results of the action carried out by guerrillas in Çukurca within the scope of Martyr Xebat Aktepe Revolutionary Operation yesterday evening.
The statement said that guerrillas conducted an action targeting a hill where 50 members of special operations gendarmerie forces (JÖH) were stationed on Çukurça (Çelê) – Hakkari (Colemerg) road at 17:15 on July 29.
Guerrillas hit the hill from two sides and took control of the area within half an hour.
Five emplacements of gendarme forces were completely destroyed in the action, which left at least 15 JÖH members dead. Guerrillas also seized ammunition of the gendarmes.
HPG said more than 25 JÖH members were wounded and some others fled the scene by jumping into the Zap river.
The action was dedicated to Martyr Dılşad, Martyr Bêritan and the guerrillas martyred in Van.
HPG added that the dead and wounded soldiers were taken to Hakkari and Turkish jets conducted an intense bombardment on the area throughout the night. Guerrillas turned back to their base safe.
