HPG: 16 Turkish soldiers killed in Xakurke and Hakkari

At least 16 soldiers of the Turkish army were killed as a result of guerrilla actions on Xakurkê-Hakkari line.

The Press Center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) released a statement reporting that “a historic blow” was inflicted against the occupation attacks of the Turkish forces.

According to the statement, at least 16 soldiers were killed in a series of actions on May 29.

South Kurdistan

HPG said that within the scope of the Martyr Bager and Martyr Ronya Revolutionary Initiative, guerrilla forces continue their actions in response to occupation attacks.

“The Turkish invasion army which attempts to occupy the South Kurdistan territory and guerrilla zones, has suffered heavy blows as a result of effective actions carried out by our forces on May 29,” said the statement.

HPG announced the details of the actions as follows;

“A series of actions were carried out against Turkish army units seeking to advance towards Hill Şehîd Şahan in Xakurke region at 9.00, 13.00 and 14.00 o’clock. Four soldiers were killed, one other injured as a result of the action, after which the Turkish army retrieved the dead and wounded soldiers from the area in helicopters.

At 11.00, a Turkish army unit attempting to get deployed at Hill Şehîd Botan was targeted by guerrillas. Five soldiers were killed and two others injured who were then moved away from the area in helicopters.

Another action against a Turkish unit took place at 14.30 on Hill Lêlîkan. While guerillas bombarded the positions and shelters of the Turkish forces here, the number of dead and injured could not be determined.”

North Kurdistan

According to the statement, another guerrilla action took place in the Northern Kurdistan province of Hakkari. Guerrillas hit the Şovê outpost in Esendere town in Yüksekova district, as a result of which two soldiers were killed at 04:15.

In Çukurca district of Hakkari, guerrillas targeted the Turkish units stationed on Hill Xeregol where effective strikes left 5 soldiers dead.

Following the action, the Turkish army shelled the area with howitzer and mortar fire at random, causing a forest fire broke out.”

One guerrilla martyred

On the other hand, guerrilla Rêbaz Mahabat (Reşit Hasan Nejad) fell a martyr in the Turkish air raid against the Şêxzade area in Xakurke region on May 28.
