HPG: 40 soldiers killed in the action targeting Cevizli gendarme outpost

HPG Media Center announced that 40 soldiers were killed as a result of the action on the Cevizli gendarme outpost in Mardin which was was completely destroyed on June 9.

HPG Media Center announced the results of the action that targeted the gendarme outpost in Mardin’s Cevizli village on July 9.

The statement reported that HPG and YJA Star guerillas carried out a comprehensive sabotage action against the gendarme outpost in Cevizli village of Mardin’s Artuklu district at 12:45 on July 9.

One guerilla unit carried out the sabotage action with a car bomb and another unit carried out an action against the outpost with their automatic rifles. One soldier was killed during the initial clashes, after which the car bomb exploded inside the outpost.

2 buildings, 1 armored vehicle, 1 tower and many positions were destroyed and a fire broke out during the explosion. Guerillas entered the outpost after the explosion, destroyed the remaining trenches, and engaged in a brief shootout with nearby village guards.

HPG noted that a counter guerilla from Tırbıkê village named Ali tried to ambush the guerillas after the action, and a brief shootout took place in the area. Guerillas then seized 2 civilian vehicles randomly in order to leave the area quickly.

HPG Media Center announced that 40 soldiers including the outpost commander were killed during the explosion, and the Turkish army used 11 Sikorsky helicopters to evacuate the bodies of dead soldiers from the area and transport them to Amed. HPG noted that the soldiers killed a civilian woman during the clashes.

HPG said the action was dedicated to Martyr Xebat and other combatants who got martyred in Nusaybin and Lice.

Lastly, HPG added that it would announce the details of the results of the guerilla action against Bezelê (Aktütün) Gendarme Outpost in Hakkari’s Şemdinli district tomorrow.
