HPG reports ongoing chemical weapons attacks in guerrilla areas

The Turkish army has carried out further chemical weapons attacks against guerrilla positions in the southern Kurdish area of Çemço. In addition, attacks with howitzers, tanks and heavy weapons were recorded.

The Turkish army carried out more than a dozen chemical weapons attacks against guerrilla positions in Southern Kurdistan on Thursday. This was reported by the press centre of the People's Defence Forces (HPG) in its daily report on the war in the Medya Defence Zones. The target of the attacks was again the area of Çemço near Sheladize town in the district of Amadiya. The guerrillas count the place as part of the Zap region.

According to the HPG statement, the occupation forces carried out a total of fourteen attacks with chemical weapons in Çemço throughout the previous day. During the same period, the HPG also recorded at least one wave of attacks with unconventional bombs. Other attacks on the guerrilla area were carried out with howitzers, tanks and other weapons of war.

The town of Amadiya is located about ten kilometres from the Turkish border and administratively belongs to Duhok. The governorate lies in the zone of influence of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), which dominates the government of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI). Since the beginning of December, the war there has focused on Çemço in the Zap. The Turkish army has recently withdrawn from some areas in the region.
