HPG reports ongoing Turkish attacks with unconventional weapons in guerrilla areas
HPG announced that the Turkish army attacked the Medya Defence Zones 5 times with banned explosives and chemical gases and 7 times with aircraft.
The Press Centre of the HPG (People’s Defense Forces) announced the details of the actions carried out by the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrillas and the attacks carried out by the occupying Turkish army between 15-19 December.
The HPG statement listed the latest actions by the guerrillas and attacks by the Turkish army in the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) as follows:
Şehîd Delîl, Western Zap region
In the Girê Cûdî resistance area in the western Zap region, guerrillas from the YJA Star (Free Women's Troops) and HPG struck the Turkish invasion forces several times with heavy and semi-automatic weapons. An enemy position was damaged, and a radar system of the Turkish army was dismantled. In addition, an advance by Turkish troops was stopped by the guerrillas on Tuesday.
In the Girê Amêdî resistance area, also west of the Zap, YJA Star guerrillas used semi-automatic weapons to stop the Turkish army's position building on 15 December. Two further actions by the YJA Star guerrillas followed on 16 December, during which a Turkish position was damaged. The Turkish forces trying to get stationed in the area, using excavators to build a position were struck by YJA Star snipers and one soldier was killed.
Xakurkê region
On 18 December at 20:30, the guerrillas intervened in the helicopter activity in Geliyê Lolanê area. After the intervention, the helicopters had to move away from the area.
Turkish attacks with banned explosives, chemical gas and drones loaded with explosives
On 18 December, the guerrillas’ battle positions in Girê Ortê Resistance Area in Metîna region were bombed twice with banned explosives and chemical gases. It was determined that the smoke rising from the chemical gases was white in colour.
On 15 December, the guerrillas’ battle positions in Girê FM Resistance Area in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were bombed 3 times with banned explosives.
Attacks by the Turkish army
On 18 and 19 December, the Turkish army carried out 7 airs strikes, targeting the areas of Girê Zengil and Sêdarê areas in Garê region; the Girê Bahar Resistance Area Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region, the area of of Şehîd Şerîf in Xakurkê region and the area of Şehîd Îbrahîm in the Zap region.
The regions of Zap, Şehîd Delîl Western Zap, Metîna and Xakurkê were bombarded with artillery.
