Teachers in the Martyr Rustem Cudi Refugee Camp (Maxmur) said that the embargo imposed by the KDP and the attacks of the Turkish state made the existing problems worse.
The new school year at the Martyr Rustem Cudi Refugee Camp (Maxmur) began on 25 September. Approximately 3 thousand students receive education in their mother tongue in the camp. Due to the KDP embargo imposed since 17 July 2019, camp residents have not been allowed to go to the KDP-controlled areas. The KDP also does not allow students to go to university.
Teachers in the camp spoke to Rojnews.
Teacher Ayşe Şen said that the attacks of the Turkish state and the embargo imposed by the KDP made the existing problems worse. “Along with the years-long KDP embargo, the continuous attacks of the Turkish state negatively affect the students as well. For this reason, the educational requirements of the school and students cannot be met.”,
“Education in mother tongue in the camp can be provided thanks to the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the Kurdish people and Kurdistan. Thanks to the leader's ideology, we can provide education in the mother tongue. Of course, there are shortcomings, but we can overcome them,” she said.
“We held a meeting before the new school year started. We talked about the education system and methods. We also evaluated the shortcomings experienced during the previous school year. Due to the existing problems, we cannot offer a better education system we want to introduce. This affects students negatively,” Cemil Kara, another teacher in the camp, said.
