"Our participation in the guerrilla struggle is the best answer"

Despite all attempts of the Turkish state to prevent the participation of young Kurds in the guerilla, many people continue to join the ranks of HPG and YJA-Star.

While the Turkish media claims that the roads to the Kurdish mountains are blocked and that no young people are joining the guerrilla, activists from Northern Kurdistan and Turkey continue to take to the mountains, especially during this warlike period. Agit Çiya and Piro Çiya have come from Amed (Diyarbakır) to join the struggle.

"I have always dreamed of taking to the mountains"

Guerrilla fighter Agit Çiya says: "My name is Agit Çiya. If you ask why Çiya [Kurdish mountain]; the fascist Turkish state tries with all means to prevent the Kurdish youth from joining the guerrilla. It uses special war methods, prostitution, drugs and many other things to achieve this goal. I am trying to respond to the claim that nobody is joining the guerrilla. The mountains have always been a dream of mine. To be in the mountains, to witness what happens in the mountains, to experience freedom in the mountains - that means Çiya to me. That's why I gave myself the name Agit Çiya.”

The guerrilla fighter continues:

“Recently, a fierce special war against the Kurdish youth is taking place. In order to prevent the youth from joining the guerrilla, they try to influence the opinion of the youth. Minister of Interior, Süleyman Soylu said: 'Nobody is joining them anymore, there are very few of them, the youth is not interested in it'. That's a lie, we have shown this with our affiliation. We joined the guerrillas, that was our dream.

In recent days there has been an analysis by Murat Karayılan. It was about the professionalization of the guerrilla and participation. Our joining the guerrilla is a response to this assessment and an invitation. The enemy is exerting severe repression so that we don't join. But we didn't bend, we took advantage of the gaps in the enemy's net and are now part of the guerrilla."

"Resist the enemy like a mountain"

Guerrilla fighter Piro Çiya says: "I gave myself the name Çiya because of my longing for the mountains. I hope that I will give the right answer to the enemy with my life and practice steadfastly like a mountain. Even if the enemy is obstructing our participation, we have read Heval Murat Karayılan’s speech on professional participation in the guerrilla carefully and dealt with the enemy's shortcomings. And we have reached the free areas, the place where we belong, the mountains. That makes us happy. All the obstacles the enemy has put up to prevent our joining have failed.”

Çiya adds: “Of course, not only we have joined. We are very happy that many young people from Amed, the capital of Kurdistan, also want to join. If they unite their will, they can reach their goal. We call on the Kurdish youth, the youth in Kurdistan and Turkey: As difficult as the obstacles and repression are, as big are the gaps in the net of the enemy. The important thing is to approach the matter in a professional way and to put your goal into practice with commitment and willingness to make sacrifices.”
