Speaking at a press conference in Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani said, “We have decided not to unite under a single list. Instead, each party will run in the elections with its own list.”
Talabani noted that talks on forming a government are still ongoing. He said that a KDP delegation recently visited Sulaymaniyah and that another meeting between the parties will take place this week.
Meanwhile, Kurdish opposition parties are continuing their talks to form a united list for the elections. While cooperation talks between the New Generation, Yekgirtû, Komele, and Bereyi Gel parties are ongoing, the Helwest Movement has announced its withdrawal from the alliance.
The Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq announced that general elections will be held on November 11 and that candidate applications will begin on May 25. The upcoming elections in the Kurdistan Region are seen as a critical process that will affect both the balance between Kurdish parties and relations with Baghdad.
