The Party of Free Women of Kurdistan (PAJK) Coordination said in a statement to mark 8 March, International Women's Day, that "all these years of struggle and experience have gifted us the strength not merely to transform society, but to fundamentally remake the system itself."
With urgency, PAJK called upon all women across Turkey who yearn for democracy and peace to stand tall and claim their rightful responsibility in this historic process. "The time for silent witness has passed. Now is the moment for bold action," said PAJK welcoming Öcalan’s Call for Peace and Democratic Society.
The statement said: "Our women's liberation movement has been shaped and strengthened through the significant struggle, labour and determination of comrade Sakine Cansız (Sara) and those who followed her path. Against the male-dominated world, the power to build freedom through female consciousness and perspective has emerged. This remarkable women's march has reached its universal expression in Kurdistan today. The truths illuminated by women's struggle have established women's freedom as the foundation of free life. On this basis, we celebrate 8 March, International Working Women's Day, alongside all women, our comrades, our people and our friends who maintain their unwavering struggle in dungeons, at resistance fronts, and across all spheres of life."
PAJK added: "We step into another spring bearing our ideological leader Abdullah Öcalan’s (Apo) profound gift to Kurdish women and all people’s: the manifesto for Peace and Democratic Society.
Recently, we received Abullah Öcalan’s letter to PAJK wherein he declared that women hold the key to success in building this new process. Describing 'the democratic communalist process as the contemporary expression of mother-woman sociality', our leadership asserts that unless we dismantle the rape culture imposed upon matriarchal society, the full truth in philosophy, science, ethics, esthetics and religion cannot emerge in its complete dimensions. He emphasises that socialism cannot flourish in this new era unless we uproot the male-dominated culture deeply embedded within society. With clarity, he highlighted that real socialism's failure stemmed not only from inadequacies regarding state, nation and democracy, but crucially from women's enslavement, perpetuated as a deep-seated cultural norm. He establishes that socialism's fundamental prerequisite is developing a programmatic approach to relations between men and women. By declaring that a man incapable of properly engaging with a woman cannot be a socialist, he establishes an essential principle."
In its statement, PAJK underlined that "Abdullah Öcalan observes that the more a woman liberates herself from the culture of slavery implanted in her mind—though starvation for freedom has been inscribed as woman's destiny—the more her resistance against this supposed fate reveals the magnificence of our free personhood. He affirms that as the creator of culture and society, woman is rightfully associated with holiness and divinity. This perspective from Öcalan inspires and empowers us all; he maintains that the reality of free life alongside women, a value he has never compromised, constitutes the fundamental principle sustaining him. With this understanding, we celebrate the 8th March of our leader Abdullah Öcalan, the comrade of women's freedom, who introduced us to liberation, bestowed upon us will, consciousness and strength."
The statement continued: "The physical freedom of our leader Abdullah Öcalan, who has dedicated his entire life to the liberation of women and society, stands as a fundamental prerequisite for cultivating peace and collective co-existence. The 26-year Imrali captivity system must now be consigned to the bitter depths of history. This 8th March, we call upon all women to take to the streets to transform this day into a powerful manifestation of action and struggle for Apo's freedom, recognising that his liberation is inextricably linked to women's liberation. The success of this new process, initiated by Apo's call, will only materialise through his physical freedom and the creation of conditions necessary to advance this process. Apo must be physically liberated and granted the opportunity to work actively in the service of peace and democracy. The time for his freedom is not tomorrow—it is today."
The statement added: "Today, women stand as the architects of this dawning era of peace and democratic society. The age of democratic society is unmistakably women's time. The manifesto of democratic society is, at its core, the manifesto of women's freedom. Guided by this consciousness, we pledge to fulfill our responsibilities in this process—we shall intensify our struggle for freedom, democracy and peace. As women, we have consistently stood at the vanguard of every struggle, catalysing profound social transformations throughout history. Now, our collective struggle, tireless effort and devoted labour as women will prove decisive in realising the success of this new era—an era shaped by the paradigm of free life. The accumulated wisdom of all these years of experience, our hard-won self-power, unyielding will and heightened consciousness carry sufficient strength to transform society and dismantle the existing system. Our confidence and belief in this potential remains unshakable."
