Turkish troops at Yüksekova District Gendarmerie Command and Efeler Regiment opened random mortar and artillery fire on İpek, Yeşildere, Orman and Dize neighbourhoods as of the evening hours yesterday.
As the artillery attacks continued, special operation teams blockaded and started another wave of attacks on the mentioned areas as well as Cumhuriyet and Kışla neighborhoods.
Many houses were hit by mortar and cannon shells in the attack, as a result of which 12 year old child Rojin Özatlı was wounded by shell fragments.
Meanwhile people took to the streets and protested the state terror by making voices and chanting slogans, to which police responded by opening fire with heavy weaponry from armoured vehicles. While some houses were hit in the fire, special operation units fired grenades against the barricades as people chanted “Long Live Gever Resistance” and “Long Live Cizre Resistance” in response.
While police forces later withdrew from the neighbourhoods in the face of strong resistance, the people continued holding 'resistance vigil' against probable attacks till morning hours. It grabbed attention that policemen used uttered swearwords to the people from inside armoured vehicles.
In the meantime, a mortar shell fired from District Gendarme Command hit a house of a civilian by the name Abdulkerim Uyan in İpek neighbourhood of Sekran (Güllüce) village.
Uyan said “All these mortar shells were fired by the state forces. I collected some of them, but there are many others remaining on the roof. They also opened fire on our house from an armoured vehicle after firing these mortar shells. Enough is enough, civilians are living in the neighbourhoods, and there is no one other than us. See and hear us now”.
