Political prisoner Hüseyin Idiğ has passed away on Monday. He had been in custody as a political prisoner for 26 years. Due to his serious illness, his detention was suspended in 2018. The sixty-year-old died on Sunday at the hospital in the district of Kurtalan. Idiğ was reportedly detained in 1995 for alleged links to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and had previously been held in several different Turkish prisons, including Siirt and Balıkesir. Among other things, he was severely ill with stomach and lungs.
Idiğ's body was taken from the hospital's morgue to the village of Çayırlı in Kurtalan district for burial on Sunday by his family and members of the Aid Association for the Families of Prisoners (TUAY-DER). The family receives mourners in Çayırlı village.
The prisoners' aid association TUHAD-FED demands the immediate release of the hundreds of seriously ill prisoners.
