Life for him began that day. All faces turn to the sun; all hearts warm with the day. A day is a beginning, an innovation and hope. Many heroes, as bright as the sun, as warm and full of creativity, lived and fought in these lands. They never looked back and they were never afraid. Those who loved life the most were the most connected. They were the ones who experienced the greatest happiness as well as the greatest pain. They were the ones who were sharpened by pain and kneaded with the simplest, cleanest and deepest feeling. Not one, not ten, not a hundred; thousands of valiant, thousands of heroes. Thousands of beautiful people who need to be known, understood and remembered.
Canfeda Zilan is one of these heroes. He was born in 1993 in Van. He grew up in a family with a patriotic and resistance culture. Devotion to the country and its people enabled Canfeda to participate in the freedom struggle selflessly. Canfeda Zilan, who joined the freedom struggle in 2012, learned about the guerrillas in the rebellious, steep and majestic mountains of Zagros. In these mountains he became a comrade. In these mountains he became a fearless warrior. And in these mountains he reached the secret of free life. In 2014, he set off to Shengal in order to save and protect the Yazidi people from ISIS attacks. Canfeda Zilan fell a martyr on 7 May 2015, after carrying out a self-sacrificing action.
His fighting friend, Şoreş Gilîdax, begins to describe Canfeda Zilan with these words: "I met him on Martyr Rahime Hill in the Zagros area in 2013. Actually, I had heard his name a lot before I actually saw him. Those who knew him would start with a big smile. Comrade Canfeda was known by everyone. As soon as we met, an intimacy developed as if we had been together for years. For Canfeda, comradeship was above everything.
He did not see anything about himself as sufficient, he was questioning himself in order to participate better. Therefore, the search for understanding the thought and philosophy of Leader Öcalan was so strong. He loved reading and writing. He was bound to his mother tongue; his writings were in Kurdish. He was also very attached to his culture; he was reading dengbêjî. He was very quick in life. He excelled in all assignments. Both his love for life and his devotion to comrades made comrade Canfeda emerge, because of his participation in the environment he was in. Comrade Canfeda was loved by all his comrades. He fought against the enemy as much as he loved life. He asserted himself in war and in life. He believed in self-sacrificing participation, something he took as a basis in his life, including when at war. While fighting his enemy, his only thought was to protect his comrades and avenge all their values.”
Guerrilla Şoreş Gilîdax continued: “He had a constant focus on sacrificing. He also wrote a report. He had a suggestion. His proposal was not accepted. However, comrade Canfeda participated in all the actions he took with a self-sacrificing spirit. In the last action against ISIS in Shengal, together with comrade Pirdoğan he went into action. They took over 3 hills. When they got close to the enemy, they talked to all their comrades on the device, wished them luck and said goodbye. After fighting for a long time, they carried out a self-sacrificing action. These comrades were not ordinary people, they knew the leadership philosophy and the organization. They knew their enemy. They lived and acted with this consciousness and spirit. Our duty, as comrades of these heroes, is to protect their memories and carry their struggles to victory."
