Soldiers disguise themselves in civilian vehicles in Lice

The Turkish army has launched an operation in the southeast of Lice in the province of Amed. The soldiers are not brought into the area in military vehicles but camouflaged in civilian buses.

On Tuesday evening, the Turkish army started a military operation in the district of Lice in Amed province. Previously, reinforcements had been brought into the region by civilian buses since the morning hours. In this way the soldiers are trying to protect themselves from guerrilla actions disguised as civilians. The military operation is said to involve 495 men, including so-called village guards.

Lice is one of the guerrilla's strongholds and is located in the Kurdish province of Amed (Diyarbakır). It was here in the village of Fis that the PKK was founded in 1978. Despite massive village destruction and widespread state terror against the civilian population, the people in the region still hold on to their tradition of resistance.
