Relatives of 62 persons martyred in the ISIS terrorist attack against Qamishlo's Xerbi neighborhood say they will always remember the day as a dark moment.
ISIS gangs carried out a violent massacre in Qamishlo's Xerbi neighborhood on July 27, 2016. In the car bomb attack early in the morning, 62 people (mostly women and children) were martyred and 176 people were injured.
On the anniversary of the massacre, martyrs' families say they will never forget the day.
"I WILL NEVER FORGET THOSE DAYS"
Merdiya Ehmed, mother of 7, lost her husband Mihemed Seid Mihemed in the massacre. She was in her village, Himo, that day. She heard the explosion all the way from there: "As soon as I heard it, I called my husband who was in Qamishlo. I couldn't reach him. He was hospitalized and he lost his life 12 days later. I can't forget those days. Their memory will live on in my head."
"EVERY DAY I REMEMBER MY SON"
Ebdulrehman Mehmud lost his son Zinar in the massacre. He said:
"The explosion happened right in front of me. I couldn't tell what was going on. My son died in the explosion. I think of him every minute, every day. If I knew the men who did this, I would give them to my wife. She's had heart problems since we lost our son."
Hekmiya Salih,who lost her brother Elaedin Salih in the attack, said the day will always remain a dark moment. She also lost neighbors in the attack: "I want to forget that day, but I can't. I will remember it until the day I die."
Artist Samir Kalo made a painting depicting the explosion. Kalo said the purpose was to remember the martyrs and added: "We will never forget this terrorist attack and the people we lost."
