A helicopter of the Turkish army opened fire on villagers involved in border trade in Hakkari province. The group targeted by the attack was made up of residents of the Çemekurk village in Derecik district who were returning from southern Kurdistan, northern Iraq.
The attack killed 14 years old Vedat Ekinci who lost his life at the scene. One of the villagers got seriously wounded.
The deadly attack was reportedly carried out at around 3 pm local time. The minor’s dead body was found by the local people who rushed to the scene after the aggression. The injured villager was taken under treatment.
Turkish state forces are committing never-ending crimes along the border, enjoying absolute impunity. Perpetrators of extrajudicial killings are not brought to account nor are they sentenced for their crimes. The Turkish judiciary absolves the perpetrators, constituting a threat for the victims.
The executions at the border are not new. In the border village of Roboski, in Şırnak’s Uludere district, Turkish fighter jets blatantly massacred 34 civilians, 19 of whom were minors, on December 28, 2011.
