Village in Şırnak countryside sealed off by Turkish soldiers

A village in the countryside of Şırnak province has been sealed off by the Turkish army. Local residents are banned from entering and leaving the village.

The village of Hespist (tr: Yarbaşı) in the İdil district of Şırnak has been besieged by the Turkish army for 24 hours concurrently with a military operation launched on Thursday afternoon.

The area of Turkish military operation encompasses the entire surrounding area of Hespist. The Turkish army imposed a temporary curfew on the locals and a ban on entering and leaving the village.

The operation in Hespist is causing panic and fear among the population. Many residents had to spend the night outside the village in their cars. Meanwhile, the soldiers involved in the operation stationed themselves in the village's own church, Mor Dodo, and turned the roofs of several houses into observation points. In addition, several buildings in the village were meticulously searched.

Meanwhile, a resident named Nusrettin Kaya, who lives in İdil but comes from Hespist, was detained by the soldiers during a house raid this morning. It is still unclear whether there is a connection to the operation and what the man is accused of.
