Yazidis in Shengal take action against the military siege

YJCÊ and YCÊ have taken action against the siege of Shengal by the Iraqi army.

Yazidis living in Shengal have taken action against the siege of the Yazidi homeland by the Iraqi army in accordance with the agreement concluded between the Kurdistan Regional Government’s ruling party KDP and the Iraqi central government.

People took to the streets under the leadership of the Union of Young Yazidi Women (YJCÊ) and the Union of Yazidi Youth (YCÊ), staged demonstrations and set up tents of resistance.

In order to protect the area of Çilmêra which is sacred in Yazidi faith, the people gathered in Amud, the entrance area to the site. A tent of resistance was set up here where people will remain on vigil until the attempts of siege and occupation stop.

The statements made by YJCÊ and YCÊ warned against a 75th genocide against the Yazidi community after the agreement made between Hewler, Baghdad and Ankara. The youth organisations called for resistance by all those who defend freedom.
