YJA Star commander Asrîn Cudi spoke to ANF about the resistance in the mountains of Kurdistan, violence against women, the Istanbul Convention and the importance of jineoloji.

In recent days, YJA Star commander Asrîn Cudi told ANF, Turkey has attracted attention for its bad record on violence against women.

Reminding that women who are subjected to violence in Kurdistan turn their direction to free mountains, commander Cudi said that they also attach importance to the Istanbul Convention, which is on the agenda of women. “This agreement and women's laws alone cannot solve the crises in the society. Attacks against women in Turkey during the AKP regime is not something new. We must not forget that during the AKP rule, violence, rape and all kinds of violence against women increased."

Commander Asrîn Cudi pointed out that the AKP has developed a comprehensive concept to perpetuate its power and that attacks on women are part of this concept. “At the same time, what happened is not only limited to AKP, but also related to sovereignty and hegemony. That is why we cannot limit the attacks on women only to the Erdogan regime. As we see, for example, there are many agreements and laws on women's rights in Europe, yet these cannot prevent a male-dominated mentality.”

Stating that they find the efforts of women associations and some civil society organizations valuable in order to prevent violence against women, commander Cudi added that the solution to the problems faced by women should be sought in jineoloji.

“Rêber Apo [Abdullah Ocalan] said that the 21st Century must be a woman's century. Because the revolution of women is only possible with a social revolution. The problems of women and the state of slavery they live in are due to the social mentality. This is why so many things have come to light in this century. The system and the state have become unable to govern institutionally, and capitalist modernity can no longer find solutions to the problems faced by women and the contradictions of society. A new model of people and society is currently being created in Kurdistan.”

Commander Cudi added: “The feminist movement in Europe has put up great resistance in the squares for many years. However, this resistance is currently being carried out in the Middle East. The Rojava revolution and the resistance of the Yazidi women are the best examples of this. Druse and Arab women are also involved in this struggle. Because they see the source of all problems in history and the roots of this system. At the same time, the philosophy of jineoloji and the guerrilla struggle are the way indicated by Rêber Apo to find a solution."

YJA Star commander Asrîn Cudi said that the Kurdistan guerrilla is not only fighting, but also insisting on jineoloji. As to the resistance in Heftanin she said: "It is possible to see the colours and aesthetics of women in the guerrillas who fight in Heftanin and prevent the colonialists from advancing. In the resistance of Heftanin, the plans of the Turkish state collapsed and at the same time the will of the guerrilla and the woman was revealed. Because the best attitude towards the difficulties and pressures faced by the woman was shown by those who give the most radical answer. It has been shown that the resistance here emerged in the person of Nucan, Esmer and Zelal and is actually a women's struggle. Jineoloji deals the heaviest blow to the Turkish army and colonialism."
