The Press Centre of the Eastern Kurdistan Defense Units (YRK) announced the identity information of its two guerrillas who were martyred in a Turkish airstrike carried out in the border region of Asos on August 22.
The PJAK (Kurdistan Free Life Party) and the Eastern Kurdistan Defense Units are particularly active in the Asos Mountains, which lie a good 200 kilometers from the Turkish-Iraqi border. The Turkish army regularly attacks the region.
According to the YRK statement on August 23, a unit of the guerrilla organization was struck by Turkish reconnaissance aircraft on August 22, 2022, while on duty in the Asos region of Sharbajar in the border region between southern and eastern Kurdistan (Iraq-Iran). The attack claimed the lives of two guerrillas.
The YRK stated that Bawer Sur and Rêzan Baran were among the heroic young people who voluntarily came to the free mountains and joined the guerrilla ranks to end the occupation and to secure the freedom of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.
According to the YRK, both young men joined the guerrilla ranks in 2022.
“Rêzan Baran was born into an Afrin family and raised in a patriotic culture. He gained experience within the guerrilla organization in a short time. He was participating in the guerrilla life with unique enthusiasm and love. That's why he was always loved among his fellow fighters.
Bawer Sur was born into a family in Selmas city in Eastern Kurdistan and was a member of the Celilyan tribe. He got to know the freedom movement as a child. He came to realize the special war policies of the Iranian state against the youth at an early age and joined the guerrilla ranks in 2022.”
The YRK expressed their condolences to the families of both guerrillas and to all patriotic people of Kurdistan, concluding, “We promise once again that we will lead their struggles and dreams to victory.”
