Demonstrations continue worldwide to mark the World Kobanê Day and to demand freedom for Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Cologne

In Cologne, Kurdish, anarchist and internationalist activists have called for freedom for Abdullah Öcalan with a banner action. In addition, the activists decorated a wall with the writing "Smash Turkish Fascism!" to greet the resistance of Kobanê six years ago. The action took place on the occasion of the "International Week of Solidarity and Resistance" led by the international campaign RiseUp4Rojava.

"With this we want to carry our anger about the fascist conditions and our fight for a liberated life to the outside. In times in which racist attacks on People of Color and oppressed peoples like the Kurdish people are increasing, in which Islamism is making a renewed, inhuman upswing, a clear anti-fascist message is more important than ever. We as resistant youth must remain active and fight against state terror, like the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan in the Turkish prison or the criminalization of the Kurdish movement in Europe," the participants explained the background of the actions.

“Young people as the "future of this earth" must stand up for a life worth living for all and "smash" right-wing ideas. Only if we unite our anti-fascist forces, can we counter the rising fascism and Islamism in Kurdistan, Austria, France and everywhere in the world. Let us stand up together. Let us continue to carry our anger and determination into the cityscape. Let us be in solidarity with the freedom fight in Kobanê, which has become a symbol for a life beyond state, power and violence.”

In Bielefeld, members of the Kurdish youth movement TCŞ have decorated some walls and billboards with posters featuring the portrait of Abdullah Öcalan, mastermind and most important political representative of the Kurds. Further actions of TCŞ are to follow in the next days.

In another action, Kurdish and internationalist youth carried out a civil disobedience action in Cologne to mark World Kobanê Day. “From Cologne to Kobanê” read the banner of the activists with posters of Abdullah Öcalan as they commended the historic Kobanê resistance and international solidarity.

France

Banner actions also took place in France as part of the campaign of the Kurdish European umbrella organization KCDK-E under the motto "The time is ripe - Freedom for Leader Öcalan". Until November 10, a banner or poster is to be hung up for each day of detention of the PKK founder, who has been imprisoned on the Turkish prison island of Imrali since February 1999. The banners with the extremely clear messages have so far been hung in Marseilla, Paris, Evry, Drancy, Villeneuve, Mantes-la-Jolie, Strasbourg, Montpellier and Rennes.

Sweden

In the Karlstad city of Sweden, a two-day convoy action has been staged to demand freedom for Öcalan. In this scope, activists handed out leaflets to inform the public about the detention conditions of the Kurdish leader. The action was concluded with a statement by the People’s Council in Karlstad.
