AKP need to be persuaded that peace is the only option

The Executive Council of the Kurdistan Democratic Confederation (KCK) has stated that in the latest security meetings of the Turkish state a decision for a total war against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the Kurdish people has been given. The Council also stated that the approaches suggesting the PKK to declare a unilateral ceasefire and to lay down its weapons unconditionally will encourage the AKP (Justice and Development Party) Government and the Turkish state to carry out their attacks. The Council added that “It is not the PKK but the Turkish state and the AKP government who need to be persuaded and called for.”

Supporting the declarations of the Turkish Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (TÜSÝAD) regarding solution, the KCK said that the evident of the re-launching the dirty war are destruction of two villages in Hasankeyf district of Batman by the state forces as well as the killing of the village guards by the security forces who refused to take part in military operations against the PKK.

The statement of the KCK Executive Council follows:

“Since the historical and social crimes against the Kurdish people which have been committed by the Turkish state during the AKP government under cover of so-called “Opening” have been exposed, Tayyip Erdoðan and his party have dropped their masks. Within the last week the Turkish state held several meetings in order to continue its total war against the Kurdish national movement. The aims are to purge our movement, break the resistance and will of our people and make them surrender.  As the “Opening” plans of AKP and its leader Tayyip Erdoðan have failed and their real face have been unveiled, they turned into Tansu Çiller of 90’s. The recent security meetings and the National Security Council (MGK) meetings have proven this reality.

Two Kurdish villages in Hasankeyf districts were destroyed by the Turkish army, like Tansu Çiller’s government of 90’s. Kurdish civilians are continuing to be the victims of extrajudicial killings, poor villagers are facing suppression and village guards are being executed by the states forces merely because they refuse to take part in the military operations. These facts are the proofs of a total war of AKP government against liberation movement of the Kurdish people.

AKP and the Turkish state have failed to regard our 18-year old one sided affords for dialog, endeavours for a peaceful solution of the Kurdish problem. We, as the Kurdistan freedom movement, have always been confronted with purging policy of the state which is based on denial and destruction.

Our unilateral ceasefire which we strived to keep with good faith has lost its meaning due to military operations and accordingly we have annulled it as of June 1. Since then, we are in an active defensive position. This position is a restrained defensive position based on the right to self-defence. The public opinion should be aware of the fact that our movement is a restrained resistance and liberty-defensive struggle against the atrocious and brutal attacks of the Turkish state. However, AKP is launching a total war against the Kurdish resistance which may lead up an uncontrolled war. Despite the fact that we would not prefer it, it is obvious that such a war will expose Turkey to a disaster. Therefore, AKP government should quit its total war policy against the Kurdish people, including village destructions and cruel attacks costing innocent civilian lives.

AKP AND TURKISH ARMY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE VILLAGE GUARDS DEAD

The village guards should emancipate themselves from the village guard system which has been a social and national bleeding wound in Kurdistan for years and they should not take part in this total war conducted by the Turkish state. Our movement does not target the village guards. This attitude of us will continue. In this regard, AKP government and the Turkish army are the only responsible for the loss of lives of village guards. The village guards should be aware of the fact that the recent attacks on them are all carried out by the Turkish army because the state is aiming at turning the war into an inter-Kurds conflict. The state forces are slaughtering the village guards and laying the blame on our movement so that they can instigate the conflict between Kurds themselves. Neither the patriotic Kurdish people nor the village guards should be deceived with this intrigue.

WELCOMING TUSIAD’S DECLARATION

Since the policies of the AKP government have been unveiled and tension has been rising up, Kurdish problem and a possible solution are being widely discussed within Turkey. Tayyip Erdoðan considers the real-like and rational proposals for a solution by TUSIAD and other similar organisations as well as the sincere intellectuals as “nonsense”.  On the other hand, the prime minister applauds the calls on our movement for a unilateral ceasefire and laying down the weapons. Thus, once again, AKP government revealed its policies aiming at purging our movement and splitting and squelching the democratic groups.

‘A UNILATERAL CEASEFIRE IS NOW UNREALISTIC’

In our current situation it will be unrealistic and unfair to ask our movement to declare a unilateral ceasefire. A ceasefire can be made not only by asking but also creating a mutual trust environment and taking concrete steps for creating such an environment. Therefore, it is neither feasible nor realistic to expect us declare a ceasefire while such thorough attacks are being carried out against the Kurdish people and our movement and a total war is being conducted. In the several meetings held by the state officials and the latest National Security Council meeting nothing has been decided but a total war against the Kurdish people. However, it is unfortunate that instead of questioning the decisions for a total war and military operations and village destruction by the army, the reprisal actions of the freedom fighters are launched as obstacles in front of the solution.
