Al-Qaeda claims responsibility for attack in Hewler
The Islamic State of Iraq and Levant, the al-Qaeda linked group responsible of major attacks against Kurds in Rojava has claimed responsibility for the bomb attack carried out in Hewlêr, on 29 September.
In a written statement the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant said it had carried out the attack in response to threats by Barzani, whom it described as a "criminal apostate".
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) was formed in April through a merger between al-Qaeda's Syrian and Iraqi affiliates.
Six people died, and over 60 where injured in the attack in Hewlêr.
On 28 September the YPG (People's Defense Units) killed Abu Omar al-Chechen, a commander from the Russian Caucasus, and one of the leaders of the ISIL.
