Anti-government protests continue in Iran and East Kurdistan

Despite the Iranian state's brutal crackdown, anti-government protests continue in dozens of cities.

Mass anti-government protests continue uninterruptedly in Iran and Rojhilat (East Kurdistan).

In the city of Sine in Rojhilat, young protestors set fire to the state propaganda institutions with Molotov cocktails.

In the city of Saqiz, a group of young people visited the family of detained student Milad Ebadi and expressed their solidarity.

The Iranian state forces deployed troops to the city of Ciwanro (Jawanroud) in Rojhilat after clashes erupted during commemoration ceremonies for 7 people who had been killed in demonstrations. While armoured vehicles patrolled the city until midnight, dozens of people were detained during house raids.

It is reported that an artist from Sine, İlham Murerisi, launched a hunger strike in the Kecho Prison in Kerec (Karaj) near Tehran.

Kurdish writer Mujger Kawusi, who had been jailed in Qaima for 104 days, was released on bail.

An activist named Mehdi Eşkizeri was subjected to brutal torture while in custody. Marks of torture suffered by Eşkizeri in custody were circulated on the social media. After 20 days of detention, Eşkizeri died on Sunday.

According to the Iran Human Rights Organization, 516 people have been killed and 19,204 people have been detained since the anti-government protests first erupted in Iran and Rojhilat Kurdistan.

On January 3, the Iranian judiciary upheld death sentences for two protesters but ordered a retrial for three others on death row in the same case.

Since the murder of 22-year-old young Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini by the morality police in Tehran on September 16, there has been a popular uprising unprecedented since the revolution of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to Human Rights Activists News Agency HRANA, at least 516 people, 70 of whom were under the age of 18, were murdered between September 16 and January 2, and 19,204 others were detained.

HRANA reported that protests had spread to 161 cities. Other Iranian opposition sources state that the death toll is much higher, claiming that at least 750 protestors have been killed.

Iran's Human Rights Organization (IHR) reported that as of December 27, at least 476 activists, including 64 children and 34 women, had been killed, and 100 activists face execution.

REVOLUTIONARY GUARDS COMMANDER KILLED

Another commander of the Revolutionary Guards has been assassinated as the Iranian authorities uttered new threats during the commemoration of Qassm Soleimani, the Commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Army, who was killed by the United States in a drone attack in Baghdad.

On Tuesday night, a high-ranking member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and the Basij militia, Qassem Fethallahi, was shot to death on the doorstep of his Tehran home. According to the IRNA news agency, Fethallahi was shot four times at the entrance to his home.

Iranian President Ibrahim Reisi vowed to avenge Soleimani on the third anniversary of his death.
