Arrests in Diyarbakir

The march organized for the 32nd anniversary of the creation of the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) was attacked by police. A number of young people were detained.

A group of youngsters gathered in front of BDP District Organization building in Baðlar/Diyarbakýr to mark the 32nd anniversary of the foundation of the PKK, lighted fires and danced the halay in company with slogans "Biji PKK", "Bê Serok jiyan nabe", "Öcalan", "Baþur, Bakur, Rojhilat Apo Seroke Welat", "Disa disa serhildan". Opening the PKK flag and huge posters of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and Mehmet Hayri Durmuþ from PKK’s leading management, young started a march from BDP Baðlar District Organization building along the Lezgin Avcý Street. The march accompanied by the banner "Em vejîne gele Kurd piroz dikin", was met by the police interference close to the health care center on Nükhet Çoþkun Street.  

The police interference with gas bomb was responded by young with molotov cocktails and fireworks. While many shopkeepers closed their shops after the clash, the clash continued in side streets. Many young demonstrators were reported detained in the clash which lasted nearly 45 minutes.
