The 2022 Motorcycle Riders Deaths Report issued by the Courier Rights Association said that at least 58 riders were killed on the job in 2022 in Turkey, while at least 30 lost their lives while working in 2021.
The report asserts that the Law on Occupational Health and Safety was not sufficient to make the work of self-employed couriers safe.
The report said that there is a direct link between fast deliveries and accidents and that these accidents should be defined as murders. In addition, the report indicates that the data of the Social Security Institution (SGK) on occupational illnesses and worker deaths were not "credible."
According to the report, of the riders killed on the job in 2022, 7 were under 18, 26 were between 19-27 years old, 22 were between 28-50 years old and one was 58 years old.
28 of the 58 riders killed on the job in 2022 died in Istanbul. 58% were riders working for restaurants while 42 % were self-employed.
