At least eight Turkish soldiers have been killed and fourteen others wounded in an attack carried out by the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party).
The attack occurred in the Semdinli district of Hakkari. PKK guerrillas armed with heavy guns attacked a military outpost in Gediktepe area, between Tekeli, Günyazý and Otaklar villages in the early hours of the morning, around 2am. According to the first information coming through at least eight Turkish soldiers have been killed and fourteen others are wounded.
The website of the Turkish Armed Forces confirmed news of attack and deaths. The injured soldiers have been transferred to Hakkari Military Hospital. The clashes are continuing and the army has sent a great number of special units in the area.
The Turkish army is also bombing areas in South Kurdistan, i.e. the federal Kurdish region of Northern Iraq.
