Turkish police carried out raids across Istanbul in the wake of Tuesday’s armed attack on a police post in front of Gate C of the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan district. Three people died and five others were injured as a result of the attack. Among the dead are the two attackers, who are reported to be members of the DHKP-C (Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front).
İdil Cultural Centre, Halkın Hukuk Bürosu (People's Law Office) and Halkın Gücü TV were among the targets of the police operations launched in connection with the attack.
As many as 90 people have been taken into custody during the raids so far, including Pir Sultan Abdal Cultural Association (PSAKD) Sarıyer branch manager Şimal Deniz, members of the Association for Solidarity with the Families of Prisoners and Convicts (TAYAD), Ayten Öztürk, who has been under house arrest for more than 2 years, and lawyers.
A 24-hour ban on access to lawyers has been imposed on the detainees.
