Atakan's mother: The crime of our children is to want peace
Mother of Ahmet Atakan, 22 year old student killed by police in Hatay last night, said the followings during the funeral ceremony currently being held for her son; “My son died resisting for his people. We have always stood by our son who was determined to resist against the system till the very end. I hope those who made me suffer this pain live the same. I am a mother and my heart is hurt, just like the heart of all other mothers, that of Ethem, that of Ali İsmail, that of Abdullah and all Syrian mothers who suffered the same pain. The crime of all mothers and their killed children is to want peace”.
Atakan's father who told that his son could never tolerate unfairness and injustice and died resisting against these, said that “We demand the trial of those responsible for my son's death, and we demand justice for all the children killed by the state. We didn't raise our children for the state to kill them. We share the pain of all mothers and fathers who have lost their children. My son was a brave boy, just like Ethem, Ali İsmail and Abdullah”.
Atakan recently wrote on his facebook wall that "At this time of the night, I think about Ali and his family, and Abdullah and his family. My heart burns, I cannot stop it. That is why I stand tall when facing the oppressors. My consciousness is filled with honor, my heart is like a lion. People who should be ashamed are the ones who do not claim the fallen ones as their own."
Facebook administration closed Atakan's facebook account today after his death.
