Atalay: new phase in fighting against PKK

There will be a new and thorough approach in our fight against terrorism. It is a start of a new phase.” said Turkish minister of interior Beþir Atalay before the first meeting of the Coordination for Combating Terror Council. Atalay also contradicted the news suggesting that MOI had the information about an ambush laid by the Kurdish guerrillas on a military out post in Cukurca district of Hakkari which the ministry shared with the army.

While a possible peaceful solution for the Kurdish conflict in Turkey is widely discusses the government is taking more security measures rather than negotiating.

Coordination for Combating Terror Council under public order and security sub-secretariat of the Ministry of Interior started in Ankara under presidency of the minister Beþir Atalay. It is also reported that high rank officials from different ministries, army and enforcement are taking part in the meeting.

The Turkish minister also stated that the council will be providing cooperation between security forces fighting against the Kurdish guerrillas which will create a stable, sustainable structure. The minister also stated that sometimes experts will also be part of this structure and it will bring a great deal to their work.

Border Squads

Upon a question about the special forces to be deployed on the borders Atalay said the preparations about these squads are continuing and the defence ministry will provide the public opinion with information.
