Ayşegül Doğan: Nothing in this country is independent of war

DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan said that they have made new plans in the partnership of struggle. She said, “There is a war in this country. It is not possible to deal with anything happening in this country independent of the reality of this war.”

The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan held a press conference at the headquarters of her party in Ankara regarding the ongoing Central Executive Committee (MYK) meeting.

Ayşegül Doğan started with comments on the death of 8-year-old Narin Güran, whose dead body was found 19 days after her disappearance in a village of Amed (Diyarbakır).

Ayşegül Doğan said that the names of the victims, times and governments have changed, but the current situation has not changed. Doğan said, “One day Roboskî, one day Ceylan, one day Cemile, one day Uğur, one day Leyla... But for some reason, the deaths of these children, the way they were murdered, the judicial process and the search for justice, those who cover it up and those who struggle against it do not change. Those who want to cover it up and those who struggle against it... And so, the murder of Narin cannot be considered as a murder alone. Unfortunately, there is a photograph of a decay unfolding.”

Ayşegül Doğan said that what is happening is a reflection of the war: “Yes, there is decay. It is war that causes decay. There is a war in this country. It is not possible to deal with anything that happens in this country independently of the reality of this war; women’s deaths, children's deaths, abuse cases, harassment or rape. As a society, we are experiencing the direct effects of war.”

Referring to allegations of weapons hidden underground in the village where Narin was murdered, Ayşegül Doğan said, “What is being hidden in Tavşantepe? What is the truth behind this murder? What is being hidden from the public? The case has been referred to the judiciary and we can already foresee the answers that may come. This issue is a matter of the judiciary, we cannot talk about it. We know well how judicial matters are discussed. We know it from the Kobanê case. We do not know how instructions are given to the judiciary.”

Doğan said the following about the discussions in question: “There is a talk of bullets. You must be wondering about this. We are asking on your behalf: What bullets? What is wanted to be done in Tavşantepe? Whose backyard is Tavşantepe intended to be turned into? The authorities of the block in power today are supposed to explain these questions. These are not allegations that can be covered up and forgotten.”

Touching on the other agendas of the Central Executive Committee meeting, Ayşegül Doğan said that new plans were made in the context of the partnership of struggle. Referring to the discussions on the ‘Democracy Alliance’ on the agenda of the MYK, Ayşegül Doğan said, “Yes, we are constantly discussing the most important agenda of Turkey, which is to increase the gatherings and to bring the struggling sections together. We are trying to plan and continue our work on this without interruption.”
