Commenting the remarks by Minister Hayati Yazýcý, who had suggested 'shifting' the Turkish border to allow better 'security', BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) Deputy Chairman Bengi Yýldýz said: “The minister should indeed think of moving the country altogether to somewhere else where there are no Kurdish people.”
Yýldýz labeled the ‘border shifting’ idea of Yazýcý as a 'non serious' approach, and added: “Mr. Yazýcý could think about moving the country somewhere where there are no Kurdish people or deporting Kurdish people out of the country. With such a shallow approach, the government can’t resolve the problem. This proposal is at the same time another explanation of why we find ourselves in this deadlock.”
Yýldýz added: “I think they have found a solution to slide the borders. They have been talking about axis shifting recently; this must be what they mean. Turkey’s and AKP’s axis is shifting, this is a shift towards the deadlock. This is a known and familiar policy.”
Bengi Yýldýz reminded that border shifting were carried out in the period when 33 people were killed under the name of preventing smuggling across the border between Iran and Turkey in 1930 and 1940’s and added “For 80 years, we have known and witnessed that it is not a matter of brigandage and smuggling. The proposal of Minister Yazýcý is not serious. Moreover, Kurdish people are on both sides of the border. They must also ask Kurdistan Federation if they will agree on Turkey’s wish. It is a matter between Kurdish people and Turkey; not a matter between Turkey and Iraq.”
