BDP peace convoy heading to Dortyol

After the fascist attacks against the Kurds living in Dortyol district of Hatay, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) is sending a ‘peace convoy’ to Dortyol. BDP stated that the delegation will meet the victims and the officials in order to find out the reasons behind the riots in the town and negligence of the officials in preventing the attacks.

Harassment from security forces

The convoy in which BDP co-chairs Selahattin Demirtas and Gulten Kisanak as well as other BDP MPs are taking part set off from Diyarbakir early this morning. While more cars attended the convoy on the way Turkish security forces stop the convoy of 50 vehicles at 2 different check points between Urfa and Antep cities where the ID cards of the activists were checked.

‘Sensitive’ governor banned the peace convoy

While the Kurds in Dortyol are preparing to welcome the convoy the governor of Hatay stated that due to ‘sensitivity’ of the locals the convoy, including the Kurdish MPs, will not be given permission to enter the town. It is expected that the ban will cause tension in Dortyol.
