Colombian government and FARC-EP end new round of talks
The delegations of the government and the FARC-EP have gone into a recess period after a new round of talks. The delegations will meet again on October 3.
In their final report (joint communique 24), as quoted by the Peace Delegation of FARC-EP website the delegations stated that:
They continued moving towards the construction of agreements, in a drafting committee, about the second point of the agenda on political participation, in particular on:
"Rights and guarantees for the exercise of political opposition in general and in particular for new movements that might arise after the signing of the Final Agreement. Access to media.
Democratic mechanisms of citizen participation, including direct involvement on different levels and different subjects.
Effective measures to promote greater participation in national, regional and local politics of all sectors, including the most vulnerable, in equal conditions and with security guarantees. "
In developing these points of the General Agreement, they advanced in the drafting of different mechanisms of citizen participation and social dialogue and continued the discussion of the different conceptions on the best way to strengthen social movements and organizations and the necessary guarantees for its proper functioning within the framework of democracy.
They also discussed and exchanged views and proposals on other topics of the Agenda, that allow to start organizing the dialogue which will be developed in subsequent cycles.
They invite citizens and social organizations to participate in the forum on the issue of resolving the problem of illicit drugs, organized by the UN office in Colombia and Center Ideas for Peace of the National University, to be held in Bogotá on 24, 25 and 26 of September, and in San José del Guaviare on 1, 2 and 3 October.
The aim of these events is to provide a space for democratic and patriotic dialogue so that citizens and different organizations can make proposals on this specific point of the Agenda to enrich the discussion of the peace talks.
They also invite all Colombians to participate with their proposals and comments on the General Agreement and all points of the Agenda, which can be done through the website www.mesadeconversaciones.com.co or through forms that are available in all mayors' and governors' offices of the country.
They reiterate their gratitude to the people of the guarantor countries, Cuba and Norway, and accompanying countries, Chile and Venezuela, for their generous support to the development of these conversations.
They report that a new round of talks will begin on October 3.
