As per its commitment to maintain solidarity with the struggle of the Kurdish and Turkish peoples, the Plenary session of the CI (Confederacion Intersindacal) collected signatures demanding freedom for Abdullah Öcalan.
The congress was held in Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid). This is an annual meeting in which organizational aspects are discussed as well as the debate on the lines of union action for the immediate period.
The CI is part of the global campaign that began last fall to ask Turkey to release the Kurdish leader, imprisoned in harsh conditions of isolation in Imrali prison island since1999. The union delegates present at the Plenary Session signed cards addressed to Öcalan in which they expressed their solidarity with him and ratify support for his proposal for a political solution to the conflict.
On previous occasions, the CI plenary sessions have approved resolutions in defense of and solidarity with the Rojava revolution, in favor of political and cultural rights for the Kurdish people, while being part of the global campaign in favor of Öcalan's freedom. Likewise, it participated in the observer mission for the electoral process last year. The components of the mission were illegally expelled from Turkey.
