The trial on the murder of university student Þerzan Kurt in Muðla was transferred to Eskiþehir Court following an application by Muðla Governorship. The reason for the decision was said to be “lack of staff members”.
The application of Muðla Governorship concerning the Þerzan Kurt case, whose first trial will be held on 10 August in Muðla, demanded the case to be transferred to another city. The reason of the application is that security won’t be provided as Muðla is a tourism region and security staffs are on duty in coastal regions. The court approved the demand of the governorship and transferred the trial to Eskiþehir. High Court 9. Desk held an emergency meeting and approved the transfer of the case to Eskiþehir due to security reasons.
According to the decision, following the first trial on 10 August, the case will proceed in Eskiþehir.
Defender lawyers said that the trial is being kept out of the public opinion. The lawyers stated that an “Justice and Brotherhood Initiative” was founded in Izmir for this case and has been making preparations for some time.
The family and the lawyers of Þerzan Kurt will be holding a press conference today at 16:00 in Office Labour Union (BES) Ýzmir Branch concerning the progressions at the case.
